Izetta Thompson was born and raised in Alaska, primarily in the village of Naknek, Alaska.  She is a descendent of an Aluutiq great-grandmother (Annie Quapaw) and a Y’upik great-grandmother (Agnes Estrada).  As a young girl growing up in the village, Izetta was a fifth-generation commercial salmon fisherman and starting at age 9, she spent summers either fishing or working in canneries.  Upon graduating as valedictorian, Izetta came to the University of Arizona and completed her Bachelor of Science degree from the Eller College of Management, then later returned to Tucson to earn her Juris Doctorate from the James E. Rogers College of Law.

Izetta’s past experience includes serving as the first ever female manager at her local Alaska Native village corporation (Paug-Vik, Inc., Ltd.) Marine Advisory Program Agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and most recently served as the Executive Director for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Charitable Organization, a nonprofit organization organized to serve those living in Pascua Yaqui territories.  

Izetta has two biological children – Noah and Lovina Chambers, and is the adopted mother of her niece – Lakota Thompson.
