Teaching Modality
January in Tucson 2024 will be taught in-person on the campus of the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law. The U of A Law campus is fully open and nearly all law school classes have resumed in-person lecturing.
All participating faculty members are expected to teach in-person in Tucson.
JIT Format
JIT courses are described as intensive education sessions. This means that each course is taught for three consecutive days in a four hour and twenty minute block each day.
- Morning courses run from 8:00AM - 12:20PM.
- Afternoon courses run from 1:30PM - 5:50PM.
Travel Expenses
Consistent with years past and U of A policies, the IGP is able to cover the following related travel expenses to facilitate your teaching:
- Flights. The IGP will cover the cost of one economy class flight to and from Tucson
- Hotel. The IGP will cover the cost of your hotel in Tucson for dates that coincide with the duration of your JIT teaching obligations. Note: Flights should arrive the day prior to the start of class, and depart the day after the final class.
- Airport/Hotel Transport. Taxi/Uber from the airport to your hotel; and a return trip from your hotel to the airport
Due to budget constraints, we are unable to cover:
- Air BnBs
- Car Rentals
- Per Diem
Payment
We are happy to provide instructors with a modest honorarium for teaching during January in Tucson:
- Courses Taught by One Instructor: Instructors who prepare materials for their course, and teach the courses solo will receive $3,000 USD per course.
- Courses Taught by More Than One Instructor: If a course is taught by multiple instructors who all assist in both the preparation of materials and the teaching of the course, then the $3,000 USD honorarium will be split evenly among the instructors (Ex., When one course is taught by two faculty members, each instructor will receive $1,500 USD for co-teaching the class.)
- Exceptions:
- Consistent with prior years, and NNI policy, NNI Employees are not eligible to receive an honorarium for teaching during JIT. The choice to teach during JIT is considered an elective obligation of our positions.
- In the event an NNI Employee is co-teaching a class with a non-NNI employee, the maximum amount of honorarium an instructor can receive is limited to the equal division of the honorarium between the number of instructors (Ex., When one course is taught by two faculty members, and one faculty member is an NNI employee, the maximum amount of the honorarium that a Non-NNI employee can receive is $1500 USD.)
Virtual Classroom Space
IGP will provide access to online learning modules via the Community D2L platform.
In advance of the first day of class, faculty members are expected to use their online course space to post syllabi, assigned readings, supplemental course materials, and final assignments. Faculty should also plan to Community D2L platform when communicating with students.
